State of Resistance Book Party
Wednesday, April 25, 5:30pm - 8:30pm
The California Endowment
1000 Alameda St, Los Angeles, CA 90012
Join us to celebrate the release of Manuel Pastor's latest book State of Resistance: What California's Dizzying Descent And Remarkable Resurgence Mean For America's Future. Charting the challenges that have faced California—and the social movements that have allied to bring about change—the book is described by Booklist as "[A] deeply engaging look at the sociopolitical landscape of the Golden State, and what it means for the rest of America." Ai-Jen Poo, director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance and author of Age of Dignity, adds that “Everyone who’s concerned about our nation’s current direction should read this book—for insight and inspiration.”
Come early for a festive reception with music provided by DJ Sizzle, followed by an inspiring performance by spoken word artist Alina Amkhavong, a short talk by Manuel Pastor, and a panel discussion on the implications for movement-building today with Los Angeles City Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson, Cathy Cha (Haas Jr. Fund), and Alma Hernandez (SEIU California)—all moderated by The California Endowment's President and CEO Dr. Robert K. Ross.
